Get the lights

Not much news going on today except some pilot updates.

Regarding a few ABC pilots:
An American Family will be directed by This Might Hurt‘s Jason Winer and will co-star Knights of Prosperity‘s Sofia Vergara.
Eden Sher has been added to The Middle‘s cast as the middle child.
Galaxy Quest‘s Dean Parisot will shoot I, Claudia whilst V‘s director will be Bury My Heart‘s Yves Simoneau.
Finally, Empire State is going to be directed by The Pacific‘s Jeremy Podeswa.

Also, Bob Saget’s Surviving Suburbia has been saved by ABC who will air the CW show after Dancing With the Stars in April.

HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, which already stars Steve Buscemi and Michael Pitt, has another addition in the name of Gangs of New York‘s Stephen Graham as Al Capone in his early 20s.

The Emmy categories have also been expanded from 5 nominations to 6 (including Best Comedy and Best Drama).

In its tracks

The week continues and the peeps over at THR just noticed that NBC did not air an ad for their upcoming drama, Kings, their first new drama this year.

What is even more interesting it that, despite not having the time to promote Kings (or their other mid-season shows like Parks and Recreation) during the game, they did seem to have the time to show an ad for USA Network as well as Leno’s move to primetime, which won’t happen until next fall.

The CW in the meantime has moved up Reaper‘s season premiere. The show will premiere March 3, 2 weeks before its previous premiere date.
Reaper is also swapping time with 90210.

On the pilot front, CBS has picked up 3 new pilots.

The first is a drama named House Rules and written by Michael Seitzman.
The show centers on a Washington freshman class as they begin their careers as congressmen and congresswomen.
This is Seitzman’s second pilot pick after last week’s Empire State by ABC.

Thirtysomething‘s creators Marshall Herskovitz and Edward Zwick have also a new drama, A Marriage, a show that is supposed to dissect a working marriage.

The third one is a comedy pilot from King of Queens‘ creators Kathy Yuspa and Josh Goldsmith. The sitcom is called The Fish Tank and will be about a teenager having his parents’ house for himself five days a week.

Now a little follow-up on previous pilot pickups.

NBC’s Trauma has now got itself a director in the name of FNL/Caprica‘s Jeff Reiner.

Chez FOX, the same can be said about Human Target which will be shot by Dali‘s Simon West, whilst the still-untitled reincarnation project will be directed by House‘s Deren Sarafian.

Also, forget about that Lost in the ’80s drama, it’s not going forward.

The small game

The Super Bowl Office was kind of a letdown.
On the one hand there was some hilarious stuff, but on the other hand, most of it was way out there (like the fire stuff) and I really didn’t see the point of the Jack Black stuff. That was actually quite lame I thought.

There also seem to be a drought of interesting ads these days.

The only one worth it was probably that Hulu one.

Pixar didn’t bother to make a new Up trailer, and the Monsters VS Aliens clip shown was basically the one that was leaked months ago.

Finally, some breaking news: Nestor Carbonell is not wearing any eyeliner!

At the TV Critics Association press tour, some reporters asked if you wore eyeliner, which Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse denied. What do you think of this?

Carbonell: My brother sent me this link about the TCA, where you guys were at. Someone had asked about whether I was wearing eyeliner. I think Carlton came to my defense, and he said, “He’s 100 percent sans makeup” or something like that. I could see why some people would think I have eyeliner on because [my eyelashes] are dark. Especially the bottom row, they’re pretty dark. I’ve been dealing with it since I was a little kid, and so to me it’s very funny when it comes up, especially at TCA. My brother told me to look online and sort of Google something about that, and my name came up as a couple things. One of them was Maybelline Man. I’ve been dubbed by some people as Guyliner. It’s very amusing.
