Grinding

I’m starting today’s post with a news that might disappoint: Christopher Nolan is far from returning to Batman 3.
Although the source for this news is what one might describe as being a fansite, Batman-On-Film is a reliable 11-year-old source stating the following:

* The death of Heath Ledger in January of 2008 rocked Mr. Nolan hard. So hard that Chris was convinced that TDK was going to be it for him and Batman on film.
* The Joker was going to return in BATMAN 3.
* “You are correct in reporting that he is developing story ideas with [Jonathan Nolan] and David Goyer, but it will be until AT LEAST 2012 before we see the Caped Crusader back [in theaters]. And that is only an EARLY ESTIMATE at best right now. They are even saying it might not be until 2013.”
* Basically, the BATMAN film franchise is back to square one. As far as a story or a BATMAN 3, “Right now, there is none,” says our guy.

If Warner Bros. do change directors, I highly doubt they would re-reboot the franchise so soon after Batman Begins.
On the other hand, continuing on Nolan’s Batman legacy is a pretty big challenge.
I’m thinking either a fake sequel through a new take on Batman, or some kind of spin-off movie…or nothing at all for a decade.
Perhaps a whole new set of characters save for Batman and Alfred, since basically almost everyone seems to be gone by the end of Dark Knight.

Moving on to TV news, Battlestar Galactica‘s Rick Worthy is in talks to join next season’s Heroes as Matt Parkman’s new partner in the police (yes, he’s going back to being an LA cop).

After ABC and FOX, it’s also now time for The CW to announce its fall premiere dates:

Tuesday, Sept. 8
8:00-9:00 p.m.  “90210” (Season Premiere)
9:00-10:00 p.m.   “MELROSE PLACE” (Series Premiere)

Thursday, Sept. 10
8:00-9:00 p.m.  “THE VAMPIRE DIARIES” (Series Premiere)
9:00-10:00 p.m.   “SUPERNATURAL” (Season Premiere)

Monday, Sept. 14
8:00-9:00 p.m.  “ONE TREE HILL” (Season Premiere)
9:00-10:00 p.m.   “GOSSIP GIRL” (Season Premiere)

Wednesday, Sept. 16
9:00-10:00 p.m.  “THE BEAUTIFUL LIFE: TBL” (Series Premiere)

Friday, Sept. 25
8:00-9:00 p.m.  “SMALLVILE” (Season Premiere)

I’m most likely watching a whopping 0% of those shows this fall.

Cast It

A bunch of casting news today for some pilots:

Battlestar Galactica‘s Tahmoh Penikett will star in SciFi/Syfy’s Riverworld.
That must mean either his character dies in Dollhouse, or, well, you know the alternative.

Also joining the cast is Smallville‘s own Laura Vandervoort who played Supergirl on the CW show.
Vandervoort and Penikett will play the main couple that is killed and brought into this world were everyone who has lived on Earth is.

The Caretaker should be played by Alan Cumming.

The Phantom has also been cast, and he will be played by Desperate Housewives‘ Ryan Carnes.
I am not too thrilled about this casting news. Let’s just say the “gravitas” I was expecting isn’t quite there.

On the other hand, the new villain, Lithia, will be played by Isabella Rossellini.

I wonder if they are going to do something closer to The Tick, or if it’s just going to end up like Smallville

The Shield‘s CCH Pounder, who is going to appear in both Warehouse 13 and James Cameron’s Avatar, will also be joining the regular cast of a comedy, a FOX comedy to be more precise, named Brothers. Pounder is set to play the mother of the two brothers.

Interesting casting choices here and there, we’ll see how it all plays out on screen in the months to come.

Also, the Daytime Emmys are shifting over to The CW.
Seriously.

Cast Off

Lots of stuff to catch up on, like how FOX ordered another 2 seasons of The Simpsons (duh).
The same goes for CBS and Survivor.

Some casting news also with American Dreams‘ Brittany Snow starring in the Gossip Girl spin-off set in 1980 Los Angeles. Jericho‘s Shiloh Fernandez also join the cast with Breaking Bad‘s Krysten Ritter.
The backdoor pilot airs May 11.

Speaking of CW shows, big changes over at 90210 with the departure of both showrunners Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah, the new showrunner being Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair.

A few ABC, CBS, and NBC pilots also bring in some peeps.

First ABC with Empire State adding John Adams‘ David Morse and The O.C./Damages‘ Michael Nouri to the cast. See Cate Run is also in business with Friday the 13th‘s Ben Feldman, and Monarch of the Glen‘s Lloyd Owen joins Inside the Box.

CBS’ Washington Field will be lead by K-Ville‘s Cole Hauser, and NBC’s Trauma will have Miracle at St. Anna‘s Derek Luke.

FOX’s Walorsky got put on hold due to casting problems.
The same goes for ABC’s Planet Lucy, Funny in the Farsi, and CBS’ Confessions of a Contractor, although for them the hold was linked to unrespected contingencies.

Everything is starting to shape up it seems…
