The tribe has spoken

How awesome was last night’s 2-hour (!) Survivor Season Premiere?
Okay, it wasn’t that great I admit. Forests and stuff suck on Survivor, but still.
Survivor in High Def? I’m in 100%.
HD for this show makes things so much more enjoyable.
Even the crappy credits were great.

The challenges seemed pretty repetitive though, and all took place on the same huge plain with hills.

I hope they change the location once in a while because otherwise, it’s going to get real old real fast.
Notice the Emmy-wining jogging made by Probst on the lower left corner there.

Exile Island (why Island exactly?) has a nice new twist this year were you have a choice between Comfort (this week, an apple) or a Clue for the wherabouts of the Hidden American Immunity Idol (James!).

I must agree with Probst on one thing. It seems that this year’s castaways are the dumbest survivors ever.
The choices made during the team selection?
Eliminating one of the strongest component of the team first?
Nominating a 26-year old guy, and the one that raced selfishly ahead at the first challenge to get immunity for himself, as the team leader?
Partying over being Number 2?
Not finding the Idol with the easiest clue ever?
Regretting having chosen the Clue rather than Comfort?
Wow.

Next week, Sugar is going to need a Kleenex according to Probst.

I also just learned two things:
First, Wendy and Lisa are preparing a freakin’ OST for Heroes! I love Original Soundtracks (Giacchino et McCreary ftw), and I also like a lot Heroes’ music.
It won’t be like that crappy mix-tape that came out earlier this year, it will be real original music!
The other news is that the first ax has been freed, therefore canceling the first show this fall. That was fast! It won’t come as a surprise to you that the network that canceled this show was…wait for it…FOX!
Oh, and the show I’m talking about?

Do Not Disturb.

So much play on words one could make…

America needs a prune (Emmys 2008)

Probably the best line of the night next to Piven’s diss of the opening.

I like Survivor but man did that Emmy hosting suck.
Even Probst was bad, and he was the one to win the Emmy.

When you precede Tinay Fey/Amy Poehler and follow Ricky Gervais/Steve Carell, it’s time to GTFO ASAP.

I would love to be in the office of the Emmy guy on the day he decided who was going to host the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards.

Maybe they wanted to avoid waves and anything politically incorrect.

I guess that’s why thoses bastards decided to cut Kirk Ellis when he was talking about the Founding Fathers!

Yeah, let’s show some respect to the writers who make the medium what it is by minimizing to the extreme their speeches (Ellis was told to “wrap it up” just as was getting on stage!).

I also find ironic that for a show that celebrates TV and coming on the heels of a writers’ strike, they chose five reality hosts for the Emmys.
Nice touch.

Regarding the actual results, I’m really happy for Brian Cranston and Breaking Bad, great show, great actor.
Happy also for Ivaneck, the guy deserves to finally win!
I like a lot Mad Men but I still feel as though it is over-hyped, especially considering the other shows nominated (except Boston Legal).
And Tina Fey still rocks.

It’s also interesting to note the downfall of the networks (and HBO). 10 wins for HBO (long is gone the 3-digit), 4 for NBC, 3 for AMC (!) and ABC, 2 for FX (!) and CBS as well as Comedy Central, and finally 1 little Emmy for FOX and PBS.

And how weird was that Forrest Gump/Punchline reunion?

Who watches the IMAX?

Yes Dark Knight in IMAX is awesome. One might even describe it as orgasm-inducing.
My only complaint would be the sound.
Putting your ear next to the subwoofer over at a nightclub will probably be less harmful to you than sitting at the center of an IMAX theatre during a Dark Knight showing.
But it was worth it! I do not regret shedding 16 dollars to see it, again.

Prior to DK was, among other trailers, the Watchmen trailer.
I’m not a big fan of movie adaptations of Moore’s work. After all, LXG was crap, From Hell was pretty average, and so was V For Vendetta.

As for the Watchmen movie, I also strongly dislike Zack Snyder’s “work“, let alone 300.

Alan Moore will also “spit venom all over” the Watchmen movie.
Now, it is probable that he is just bitter about all the failed movie adaptations but I agree with him vis à vis the Watchmen adaptation.
To be honest, I’ll probably watch the Watchmen movie, hopefully even in IMAX to get the full “experience”.
Yes, the trailer kicked ass in IMAX, but it looks like it will be a Watchmen à la 300-Snyder; that is, a movie with lots of pseudo-cool slowmo to enhance the “cool factor” of the scene where there is no need for it.
Just take a look back at the “THIS IS SPARTAAAAA” moment (around 2:50), and then watch the Comedian getting thrown out (around 00:45). See any similarities?
You can bet that Snyder is going to “enhance” every scene with tons of slow motion just because it’s cool.
And I hate that.
Not because slow motion sucks, but because Watchmen doesn’t need it. The tour de force of Watchmen is not neceserally the visuals but the story itsel, the characters, and the dialogues.
So frak you Snyder!

And what is this I hear about a 300 sequel?
